New York pastrami is a classic deli meat that has been a staple in NY City for over a century. This savory and flavorful meat is made from beef brisket that is rubbed with a mixture of spices, smoked, and then steamed until it is tender and juicy.
The history of New York pastrami is rooted in the city's vibrant Jewish community, where it was first created by Romanian Jews as a way to preserve beef. They would salt and spice the beef, then smoke it to help it last longer. The result was a delicious and flavorful meat that quickly became a staple in delis and diners throughout the city.
Today, New York pastrami remains one of the most popular deli meats, and is beloved for its unique blend of spices, smoky flavor, and tender texture. It is typically served on a sandwich with bread, mustard, and pickles, or as a main course with potatoes and vegetables.
If you're a fan of delicious food, New York pastrami is a must-try.
Preparation: Simply pop the vacuum bagged pastrami in simmering water for 35 minutes, then open slice and serve. Best eaten hot in a sandwich with English mustard and sweet & sour pickles. To make the famous Reuben sandwich add melted swiss cheese, sauerkraut & russian dressing. If bag is already open you can steam to reheat. Avoid boiling in water as the flavour will be diluted.
